Palm Reading - What is Palm Reading or Palmistry?

An Introduction on Palmistry. What is Palm Reading or Palmistry? Palm reading, palmistry or chiromancy is the art and science, for a long time seen in a mystical light, of perceiving things with the help of lines on the hands. The hands contain thousands of lines, forms, symbols and peculiarities which are proper to each individual. We must not think that these lines are the result of palm flexing and of the movement of fingers, because these lines are formed in the second month of pregnancy. Like our fingerprints or our eyes, our hands are unique.

So, in the hands, both right and left, we find our fundamental self, its genetic code, even before birth. It represents each person’s individual personality, for each person has unique hands and there are no two pairs of hands that are the same in the whole world. In them we find our inborn temperament, our overall evolution, in a word our whole life.

How to read Palms?

The art of palmistry uses the similarities and differences between hands to establish facts and to make predictions. The lines on our hands in particular are seen as keys to understand our destiny. They represent the principal elements of our existence: the heart, the head, luck or chance, and life.

The left hand indicates our potential and the right hand indicates our use of this potential. As a general rule, palm readers use mostly the left hand of the persons they examine.

Many people use palm reading to study the personality and character of a person. Analyze carefully the cracks of each of your hands — you will find there the signs that unveil your destiny or your personality. Begin by exploring your own palms in order to initiate yourself, and later push your training further by studying the hands of others. You will be amazed by the truths hidden therein.

How do we recognize, to begin with, the general temperament that animates an individual? We find four larger types of temperaments each having its own precise traits that we can uncover at the first glance:

The Four Temperaments

The nervous temperament

The hands of this person are mostly cold and dry. Their fingers are long, smooth and pointed or conical; the lines are fine, very numerous and often intermixed. This is the temperament of sensitive persons, easy to influence, with a vivid spirit, capable to adapt to everything. They have a powerful imagination and are particularly gifted for all that concerns artistic or purely practical creation. Their mental ability is very developed, but often exaggerate in little things.

The bilious temperament

We recognize these persons by the hard, dry and generally warm hands. Their fingers are long, massive, smooth, conical or spatulate. Their palms have a lot of lines; they’re well visible at first glance because they are deep and well traced. These persons have great determination but they manifest it with much discretion. With them, everything is thought out and calculated, and they progress slowly and loathe precipitating events.

The lymphatic temperament

These persons have cold, moist, supple and flexible hands. Their fingers are short with prominent joints, thick, square and spatulate. We usually find few lines and they are deep and often grouped together. These persons are calm by nature. They master themselves well and evolve at a slow pace without caring for other's opinion. They possess irresistible sensuality and impress by their capacity for deep and effective reflection.

The sanguine temperament

These persons have warm, moist, either firm or soft hands. Their fingers are short, thin, and knotty at joints. The ends are square or pointed. The lines are well defined, mostly thin, less numerous but very deep. These are easily impressionable people, but who take sudden changes well. They love speed of action, without losing time. Persevering and quick to enter action, they possess warm and attentive sensitivity.

The Signs

The Fingers

in palm reading each finger of the hand indicates the potential of an individual:

• the thumb corresponds to force of character
• the index corresponds to ambition and leadership
• the middle finger corresponds to virtue
• the ring finger corresponds to imagination
• the little finger corresponds to sociability

The size of each finger determines the predominance of the character attributed to it. The longer the finger, the stronger its potential.

The Mounts

The mounts are significant of an individual’s temperament:

• the Mount of Venus denotes sensuality
• the Mount of Jupiter denotes pragmatism and business acumen
• the Mount of Saturn denotes the sense of responsibility
• the Mount of Apollo denotes the artistic sense
• the Mount of Mercury denotes the sense of communication
• the mount of the moon denotes the sense of romanticism

The thickness of a mount determines the measure of these senses. The more prominent a mount is, the more its corresponding sense is developed in the individual.

The Lines of the Palm

In chiromancy each line of the hand is significant of an individual’s personality:
• the line of life indicates the intensity and rhythm of the person’s life
• the line of the heart denotes the confidence a person has in themselves
• the line of the head indicates the intelligence and adaptability of an individual
• the line of destiny indicates social and professional accomplishment
• the line of luck tells of their personal success

Our two hands are complementary but talk about different things. The left hand represents our karma, what we could be, and the right hand our present life. This is true for the right-handed people and is reversed for the left-handed.

Chiromancy takes into consideration many aspects of the hand in order to correctly interpret signs. The lines in the palm don’t allow for a complete interpretation. It is here that we bring to our help the texture of the skin, its color, the length and width of the hand, the size of fingers, the mounts etc.
The depth and length of a sign give its character. For instance a deep and long line is positive. the other hand, breaks in a line at certain points show a negative void.
Another example: If the index is larger than the ring finger, the subject prefers the concrete to the ideal, money to glory; in the opposite case, theory prevails over practice, the dreams of glory to everyday realities.

Line Interpretation

A beautiful line is a line drawn clearly as if with a pen, whether it is straight or curved; without crosses, nests, or breaks. A well traced line is a positive for an individual. The crosses and stars found on the path of a line indicate periods of trouble. On the contrary, squares are interpreted in a positive manner. Pay attention however, that difficulties are in general a positive sign in what concerns personal evolution. Let’s not forget that happy people don’t have history. In other words, powerful personalities are built upon overcome difficulties.

A fine line signifies liveliness and irritability.
A large line signifies slowness or inertia.
A deep line signifies strength and tension in the subject in question.
A superficial line signifies loosening or inertia in the subject in question.

A total interruption marks a momentary stop, an eclipse, a change, if this line sets off in another direction.

The Main Lines

The line of life

The line of life is traditionally considered to be the most important. It symbolizes life and the important events are marked it. It starts between the thumb and index and ends at the base of the Mount of Venus.

A line of life that’s long and well-marked is a sign of balance and stability. When short it is the contrary, the sign of a choleric temperament. This line provides indications about the physical and spiritual being and about destiny.

Sometimes the line of life splits in two or more parts. This breaks point to periods in life when one needs to be more prudent, more cautious with one’s health, guiding oneself along the different sections of life. If the line is long and ends under the thumb, this is the sign of great vitality, accompanied by good health and an energy that’s always sufficient to confront difficulties of life.

If the line is short, it is delicate to give an exact interpretation without studying the form of the lines of the head and of the heart. It doesn’t necessarily reveal a young and violent death.

The line of the head

This is the line in the hand that’s most important after the line of life. It discovers the intellectual capacity.

It starts from the same place as the line of life, between the thumb and index, and crosses the palm in the direction of the Mount of the Moon. It gives information on the mental and professional abilities, as well as capacity of concentration and oral expression. If the line is well marked, the judgment is sane, and life is well led. If to the contrary, life is confused, spirit is disordered.

If the line is straight it can indicate a concrete spirit with communication abilities; if it is curved toward the Mount of the moon, it shows an intuitive spirit with a fanciful imagination, having trouble confronting reality.

If it is very long and ends in a fork, it may indicate a vivid intelligence, a very active and balanced temperament. If it is short, it indicates laziness, nonchalance, and overall a limited spirit. When it is interrupted, it can show difficult periods in life in the field of organization and work.

The line of the heart

The line of the heart traverses the upper part of the palm leaving from the little finger and going to the Mount of Jupiter or Saturn. It gives hints of the physical state of the heart and on love life. It talks about the deepness of feelings and possible breakups.

If the line is long and well-marked, it shows a long-lasting love. It’s a sign of generosity and balance between heart and reason. If it is short and straight, it may point to a cold and egotistical heart, and to the tendency to suppress one’s feelings.

If the line is overloaded with small strokes: the person is sensual and sensitive. He/she has many love affairs, sometimes difficult but always passionate. If the line is split in two, that can indicate a difficult period in the physical or sentimental domain.

If the line ascends and splits at the end of its course, then a practical interest will accompany the love and affection of others at the end of life. If it descends toward the line of the head, this indicates a conflict between reason and sentiments.

The line of destiny

It starts at the level of the wrist and goes up toward the mount of Saturn, at the base of the middle finger. It reveals the destiny, professional aptitudes, ambition and accomplishment: it is also called the line of Saturn. It’s also talks about vitality and longevity.

If the line is straight and well-marked, it is the sign of a certain stability in the well-balanced life. If it is long, the set objectives are easily obtained thanks to outside help. If it is short, that means that the person has to exercise prudence and vigilance in order to maintain his/her social status. It can also indicate deceptions and professional failures. If it is forked at the end, that can indicate social success, honors, and notoriety.

If this line isn’t present, that shows that the person cannot succeed, except by the force of the wrist, thanks to their own merits. If it is cut in several places that indicates that the person has to strive in order to succeed, and that at each interruption that may mark an important turn, the person would have to challenge themselves.

If it meets the mount of Saturn, this can indicate an end of the active life; if it stops close to the mount of the Sun, it is the sign of artistic development; and toward the mount of Jupiter, that reveals talents for organization and leadership.

The line of luck

It departs from the base of the wrist and goes up to the mount of the Sun, at the base of the ring finger. It is the line that defines personal accomplishment, artistic skills, and aesthetic sense.

If it is long, a person has all the chances to succeed and make a name for themselves in art and communication. If it is interrupted in different places, the person will go through delicate times, when they would have to know the challenge themselves and challenge luck.

If it is covered by ‘islets’ and weak links, that can signify deceptions and betrayals by the close ones, especially sentimentally. If it is forked, the person will have the opportunity to change orientation or profession.

This change will be beneficial in the majority of cases. If this line is absent, that means he or she must not count on the chance factor in order to succeed, rather on work and perseverance.
